Advisors' Opinion:- [By Caiman Valores]
The recent surge in oil prices has renewed investor interest in the small-cap oil and gas E&P sector. One company that stands out for all the right reasons is Canadian domiciled small-cap, Whitecap Resources (SPGYF.PK). Since 2009 the company has unlocked considerable value for investors through a range of acquisitions as well as development and exploration projects. This has seen its share price surge in value to be up by almost 53% over the last year alone. However, it is clear that the market has yet to fully recognize the true value of Whitecap and there is still considerable upside potential of over 30% for investors. This along with Whitecap's dividend growth strategy makes it a particularly appealing deep-value investment in the oil and gas E&P sector.

Advisors' Opinion:- [By stanh30]
In 2010 Brazil HRT Participacoes em Petroleo S.A. (HRTPY.PK) raised $1.5 billion in an IPO to fund a highly touted and highly expensive oil & gas exploration campaign in both the Amazon and offshore Namibia. Management was very promotional and overpromised and underdelivered. The three exploration wells in Namibia were all failures and the Conclusion of Solimoes Gas Monetization Study leads the market (myself included) to conclude that there is little or no present value in the discoveries in the Solimoes basin. The stock has lost 85% in just the last year, and over 97% in the last three years. Early investors like Southeastern Asset Management have lost most of their money and have either given up or believe the market cap has become too small and insignificant to warrant further examination.

Advisors' Opinion:- [By Dan Caplinger]
Outside the Dow, InterOil (NYSE: IOC ) has soared more than 10% after announcing results for its first quarter. The company, which has extensive natural-gas reserves in Papua New Guinea, recorded lower profit for the quarter on a 3.6% rise in revenue. More important than these results, though, is whether InterOil can secure a partner for its planned liquefied-natural-gas project in the island nation. That will be the key to whether InterOil can get its gas to lucrative Asian markets and cash in on its massive opportunity.
- [By Eric Volkman]
InterOil (NYSE: IOC ) results for Q1 have been released. For the quarter, revenues totaled $350 million, up from the $338 million in the same period the previous year. Net profit was just above $4 million ($0.08 per diluted share), less than half of Q1 2012's $9.4 million ($0.19).

Dance card filling up
Can a deal finally be at hand that allows InterOil (NYSE: IOC ) to deliver on the expectations it's promised investors for so long? We've been waiting more than a month for the Papua New Guinea oil-exploration specialist to decide whom it will partner with. The government of the tiny oil outpost demanded that it be a "supermajor" oil company (at the same time it was extracting better terms for itself) as a way of guaranteeing that the oil will actually get drilled, marketed, and sold. Investors have been on tenterhooks since, as InterOil apparently very laboriously goes through the bids it's received.
